I can confess, I thought the golden times for Shaun White were over. This young blood was the best competition rider on the globe for a time, but other “new riders” were coming on his way and there was a big rivalry starting. Still think so?
Last year, Shaun White disappeared from the snowboard scene, holing up in the backwoods, training for what would be the biggest winter of his life. He teamed up with Red Bull to create a custom half pipe in the wilds of Colorado. Where he would invent a series of new tricks that would have great influence on snowboarding. Sounds too epic?
This is the story of his year, the private halfpipe and one of the most progressive sessions in history. Project X. It’s a private halfpipe that was built for Shaun White hidden in the backcountry of Silverton, Colorado. Silverton is home to some of the best pow pow in the world. But because it’s only for the expert snowboarders, Silverton gets less traffic in a season that most resorts get in a weekend. This allowed Shaun to practice and learn some never before seen tricks without media interference.
It took two months and 30 heli bomb dropped avalanches to get enough loose snow to form the perfect pipe. While the cats went to work on the mountain, Snow Park Technologies welded first on mountain snowboarding foam pit. Final result of all this. Mind blowing progress! Rodeo Double Back! Switch Back 900! Front Double Cork 10! Cab Double Cork 10! I can not even imagine those tricks, how to explain them then. So what does this mean for the upcoming Olympic season? His back to back double something is a Lotto tickect, which will win a Jackpot. And we all know what is Jackpot. Olympic gold medal. Not to forget X Games, TTR champ title and many more. You name it and he will defeat all competitors, because those tricks are next level.

I the old days when friends would get together and try to progress the sport together are totally over. Instead of cheering each other on, now we build top secret super pipes in the woods with foam pits so we can spin again and again until its perfect. while the tricks are cool, pipe riding seems to be turning into gymnastics.
i still don’t see white as that good. any kid could have learned double corks if they could land in a foam pit till its perfect. i hope he still losses.
