What’s the best way to get some free designs in and get a better feel of what riders want to see on their boards next winter? Throw a design competition! ;)
Nidecker just launched their snowboard design competition, but in this case they are doing it the right way!
Not only have they partnered with Core77 - a recognized global online portal that provides a gathering point for designers - but they will be really rewarding the best designs and designers:

  • The Top 5 designs will be applied to Nidecker snowboards and displayed at the international SIA Show in Denver and at the ISPO Tradeshow in Munich in February 2010, along with profiles of the winning designers.
  • The Grand Prize winner will receive a $2500 cash award, and their design will be included in the 2010/11 Nidecker line. The 4 Runners Up will each be produced in a limited edition run.
  • All top 5 Finalists will receive a Nidecker snowboard produced with their design, and the designer’s name will be featured on the side of their board.

This is pretty much a legit win-win deal for all you graphic shredesigners out there!
Check out this link to get all the details on how to enter and hurry up now, deadline is July, 12th.

Oh yeah and fuel your inspiration by clicking below and checking out this sweet video featuring Jonas Mattsson and his NDK board! BAM BAM!

Salomon Sick Stick

The results for the 4th annual Volvo SportsDesign Awards are in!
More than 300 internationally renowned companies and designers had submitted their works for consideration for the most acclaimed international awards in sports design. This year’s edition focused on innovative ideas in the eco design sector.

The main criteria in judging sustainable design consisted of functionality, form, innovative step, ergonomics, shape and production, material, manufacturing, distribution, product life cycle, recyclability and usability.

Sick Stick by Salomon Snowboards wins the “Board Equipment” category!
I bet Arbor snowboards is really pissed about that!
Salomon used bamboo as material for their board cores and that is something Arbor does since a long time - 8 years to be precise - and is recognised for. They also felt the need to make it clear in a statement before the start of ISPO. So don’t get fulled by this “marketing” award earned by Salomon…

Franky MoissonnierUniQ Riding is only in it’s second year but they have big hopes and objectives for the future. Their mojo: customisation!
Customisation is THE big trend of these past couple of years and many different offers exist on the market. Board manufacturers like Burton with it’s series13 or Elan with it’s Blue print give you the possibility to custom design all or part of some of the boards from their range. On a more global level Apex snowboards, for example, offers the possibility to complete “shape” and design a personal board.
We also already presented you in the past some companies that do not produce their own boards but give you the possibility to have a personalised top sheet design on “virgin” boards from big brands like KaOrigin. And finally you have examples of companies offering simple customised top-sheet graphics to stick to your board (like Tattoo boards in Italy, or Original Snowboard Art in the US).

But let’s get back to UniQ BrOs!
Who could talk better about all of that than their star team rider and marketing manager, uhu? This is Franky Moissonnier presenting UniQ Riding and his own full custom board matching with his Vans wear and Sylass beanie! Pimp.

snowboarding haute-couture from Germany

Guess Indigo figured out that there is a market niche for super wealthy people who go ride once a year in Gstaad, Cortina or Megève for example, and who want only what’s best and most stylish to fit their fur coats and SUV’s leather seats.
So the german brand developped a range of high end hand-made boards, protection gear and accessories to meet the needs of those VIPs and jet-setters!
The quality of the products is obvious and the care taken to produce every piece of their range is unique for sure.
If you meet anybody wearing or riding this stuff this winter, take a picture and send it to us.
We’ll start a gallery, ha ha! ;)

jeremyvilleparisfly.jpgArt, creativity, aesthetics, snowboarding. Find the mismatch.
Well, there is no.

Snowboarding is about expressing your own style and creativity in the natural terrain.
And a snowboard is also a perfect canvas to create art.
There are many examples, from Jamie Lynn to Jeremyville.

This year Burton has released a late limited edition board with Kidrobot. Next year, Rossignol snowboards will release the Retox designed by Jeremyville. The Retox is a pure jib board with a blunt shape and crazy graphics.

We met with Megan from Jeremyville and Arno from Rossignol snowboards during the Jeremyville expo vernissage in Artoyz to discover more about this very special board that we presented to you in exclusivity a couple of weeks ago.

Check out the video!

jeremyville snowbroader

Ok guys & girls, this is hot stuff, super exclusive! Almost tooo hot!
This is not today, it’s already tomorrow!
More than 2 months before the first trade shows where all the brands will present their 08/09 collection, we bring you in “avant-premiere” the 2008/09 RETOX from Rossignol snowboards!

Rossignol snowboards have been collaborating with the Australian vinyl toy designer/illustrator Jeremyville for the graphics of their RETOX boards model for next season. The result is nuts!
If you were thinking about getting a new board this year, my advice is to ride that old board one more season and get one of those babies! ;)
RETOX Rossignol 08/09 Collection

Jeremyville will be exposing his art in the Artoyz Gallery in Paris from November 29th. The boards will be showcased so if you happen to be around Paris, it’s worst going to check it out.
