“Don’t miss the opportunity to talk to Jeremy Jones when it presents itself!”. I guess that’s what Mr. Burrows told Mr. Copsey…hence the extensive two part interview with Mr. Jones on Onboard TV!
Well I told myself the exact same thing and took advantage of the Happy Hour on the O’Neill booth to zip a couple of free Corona’s and meet up with Jeremy Jones! After this damn long interview with Onboard, Jeremy was still kind enough to give me 10 minutes that ended up being way over half an hour! It’s pretty sick to sit down with Jeremy Jones and just listen to him. So many words of wisdom…Seeing Jeremy at ISPO is funny tough. That’s definitively not the kind of environment where you’d expect to hook up with him; I was envisioning places like AK, Jackson Hall… But in fact he is super comfortable with it and takes the opportunity to share his opinion and deliver his messages. It’s the same with the internet. I wouldn’t expect Jeremy to spend much time online. But it’s completely the opposite: Jeremy is maybe one of the only big guns out there having a blog and actually really writing the stuff publiushed there! Also he truly understands the power of social media to make more people aware of what he is doing, what his organization POW wants to achieve, and why freeriding has to be looked up to!
So in our interview, Jeremy talks about his short term agenda which is the Big Mountain Pro, the development of his new Rossignol 2010 board, the ultimate freeride weapon - remember it’s ISPO -, and…that’s when my camera decided to go on strike like the Munich railway. So all the part about POW, and most importantly his film project DEEPER due to hit the screen in Fall 2010, are lost…and that’s when Onboard saves the day. ;)

Stoked we met Mr. Jones. Huge respect! Now watch our video!

After the White Album, here’s the White Book an avalanche and safety awareness movie prepared by RECCO.
This is not a new thing but the movie has been made available online so we thought it was a good idea to put it here for you to watch. Specially with all the snow that came down last week and sadly the first casualties of the winter, right here on our home terrain.
This film is not substitute for an avalanche awareness class, however it delivers a lot of very useful information and advices from some of the best freeriders out there: which tools to use to stay safe, how to read the terrain, the signs, the sounds, the weather forecasts in order to avoid those nasty avalanches. Remember the one from Xavier Delerue? Holy crap!
Click below to watch the full movie. Best spent 26 minutes.

Lake Tahoe rider and inventor Bob Candler was turned off by the waste created when a snowboard reaches the end of its useable lifespan. He spent 15 years tinkering in his garage, perfecting a revolutionary snowboard made entirely of Makrolon a clear polycarbonate material that is 100% recyclable.
Now, the Makboard solves the problem of what to do with old, played-out snowboards.

“Taking care of our planet is something that should be important to all riders,” Candler said. “I created a board that, instead of ending up in a landfill, is melted down and reshaped into another snowboard when its life is over.”

Since Makboards are manufactured in the USA, recycling an old Makboard is as simple as sending it back to the company with a pre-paid shipping label. And snowboarders who do choose to recycle their old Makboards will be given a credit toward the purchase of a new Makboard.

“Ultimately, what we’re trying to do is keep these things from ending up as pollution,” Candler said. “As snowboarders, we’ve got to be on the front lines doing all we can to protect what we all love the mountains, the environment, and everything that makes snowboarding so much fun.”

When will we be able to try those in Europe?
For more info check the Makboard website.

SmartPlanet.com is a one-stop guide to creating a smarter, greener and fairer planet published from the UK.
Concentrating in bringing you the latest news on ethical shopping and living, they also focus from time to time on snowboarding, as they seem to have shredders in their crew. ;)
So Adam the editor of SmartPlanet contacted us the other day, to let us know about this video they posted from their reporter Chris Stevens who took on a green snowboarding challenge: to travel from London to Zermatt in the Swiss Alps without stepping foot in a plane or car - and cut his carbon footprint along the way.

Armed with his trusty snowboard, Eurostar tickets and a carefully constructed plan, Chris set off on his eco adventure to find out: can there be such a thing as an ethical snowboarder?

That’s the question we’ll let you chew on on this very special Xmas day…
Just think about how you too can have a greener approach to snowboarding, because remember that if we want to keep on enjoying riding, we need to protect our planet!

pow.jpgLast April we presented you POW - Protect Our Winters, the non-profit organization dedicated to reversing the global warming crisis, with a direct focus on the winter sports community founded by freerider Jeremy Jones.

POW’s mission is to unite the winter sports community and focus our collective efforts towards a common goal.
POW focuses on initiatives to help change consumer habits and provide funds for renewable energy projects that reduce the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

So this Xmas, instead of buying a present that might just get returned, think about giving a POW membership. Besides being very easy, it’s probably one of the more meaningful gifts you can give this year. Just click here and join POW.

“Snowboard legend Terje Haakonsen, founder of the Ticket To Ride World Snowboard Tour, has been nominated for 2007 Citizen of the Year in Norway!
He’s in heavy contention with a bunch of old guys and some other citizens of Oslo, the town in which the vote is concentrated, so support for Terje is crucial. He is being nominated for his accomplishments in snowboarding including the organization of the prestigious Arctic Challenge as well as the success of his local organic bakery “Korn” in Oslo. Currently he is sitting 5th in a field of eight nominees and there has been over 9000 votes already. Voting only lasts for a short while so every snowboarder needs to vote, and support Terje in possibly the most important poll ever!”

j163c.JPGWindlip Snowboards is a company based in the French Alps with a new idea.

They make high end top quality boards whilst giving the rider the maximum amount of input on the design, build and graphics.

So like their cousins who ride waves, snowboarders get a full custom board. Using the highest quality materials, all boards are lovingly hard crafted to give customers a unique experience of riding a board that they designed. Custom boards have been available for surfers since day one, now snowboarders can get the same deal.

The heart and soul of snowboarding lies deep in the mountains. At Windlip we transform the inspiration gained from riding our local peaks into tangible ideas and innovative designs. We create boards for big lines, steep couloirs and fresh powder days. Boards with blistering performance that carve hard on the pack and are equally at home in tight trees.

Also interesting to note that Windlip has joined the “One percent for the planet” organisation. By doing so they agree to donate 1% of their revenue per year to enviromental issues and charites. So when you buy a Windlip board you too are supporting the planet.

And also important: Windlip are one of the few manufacturers using Magic Potion, the latest product in the eco lab. Specifically a base wax that leaves no residue in the snow when you glide over it. Which means that it has no impact on the environment.

At snowbroader, we like this approach, this is why we wanted to present you Windlip snowboards!

One night in hell for Sebastien LouvetAfter crossing the Alps in 2004, and then the Nice - Chamonix treck in 2006, the French snowboarder Seb Louvet, is getting ready for a new challenge : Monetiers-les-Bains – La Grave in one night and one day…through the “Dôme des Ecrins” and “La Meije”!! If the weather is ok, it is planned for the 3rd and 4th may.

To prepare this trip which includes more than 6500m height, more than if you walk up 23 times to the 3rd floor of the Eiffel Tower at more than 2000m above the sea level, Seb made many trecks during the winter.
It’s better to be super trained to make 24 hours of non-stop rise and downhill in the middle of these mythical summits!
Equiped with approach skis for going uphill, Seb needs a light equipment on his back. He’s got a Rossignol setting : Works 162 snowboard, Works Carbon bindings and Revolve boots.

Snowboarders aren’t all chairlift’s addict !!

Always a leader and innovator in his sport, snowboarding legend and longtime Rossignol athlete Jeremy Jones has stepped forward to take a proactive stand, establishing a non-profit environmental initiative under the title “Protect Our Winters”, also known as “POW”.
