DAY 1 - Monday was day one of the Oxbow Back to Powder and Snowbroader is in Areche-beaufort, to cover the event. Areche is a lovely mountain village, dug deep in the beaufortain valley between the mont blanc and the tarentaise. In short, beautiful, preserved…..and packed with Pow!! From the 2 lifts at the bottom you get access to some insane terrain, steep and deep! No wonder Oxbow is here for the second time.

Xavier De Le Rue won the Xtreme de Verbier 2009 today! This guy is just to good. Last week he already won the Freeride de Tignes and secured the Freeride World Tour Title at that time. Today on the Bec des Rosses he was just to far ahead of the rest. Of course, Xavier lives most of the winter out in Verbier that helps a lot. Congrats to Xavier for a second FWT title. This is for sure a great day after escaping from one of the most massive avalanche ever just one year ago…

More pics and videos soon!

©NISSAN OUTDOOR GAMES/T. SHU - rider: Babs Charlet

A lot went on in Chamonix last week and this week-end, with the French resort hosting both a qualifier for the Freeride World Tour and the Nissan Outdoor Games. Freeride and extreme sports are an integral part of the culture in Chamonix and we at SnowBroader just had to check out the action in the resort and on the mountain.
The Freeride de Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, took place on the ‘Pentes de l’Hôtel’ – the Brevent ski area – and saw Aurelien Routens from France and Swiss Nathalie Zenklusen logically win in snowboard.
While the freeriders where doing their thing, the 5 teams engaged in the Nissan Outdoor Games where moving around the Chamonix valley to put together a 5 minutes movie. On saturday and after filming for one week, the world’s best extreme sports athletes in ski, snowboard, mountaineering, paragliding and BASE jump and exceptional production teams turned in their films! Among the snowboarders participating to the event were Austrian Rudi Kröll, local hero Babs Charlet, Jonas Emery and Eric Themel from team Insomnia, Timo “Tike” Aho from Finland, and Xtreme the Verbier winner turned Base jumper Géraldine Fasnacht. Let’s just say that the teams enjoyed incredible conditions during the week and that in this case action speaks louder than word.

Check out the movies from the 5 teams engaged in the Nissan Outdoor Games, and take the opportunity to discover the totally crazy stuff that the speed flyers, acrobatic paragliders, base jumpers, wing suiters and of course extreme skiers and snowboarders do. This is another league, next level madness!

What a week for the frenchies! They are not doing so well at FIS World Champs in Val d’Isère on ski, but thankfully they have some huge talents on snowboards! It started with Arthur Longo winning the Slopestyle at the 5 star TTR CHAMPS Open -watch our pics and his run here- and Mat Crepel stomping an insane run in the Olympic Pipe of Bardonnechia part of a FIS qualifier. Now it’s Xavier De Le Rue’s turn to take the win the snowboard classification and the overall title at the Big Mountain Pro! Maybe you remember that Xavier came out in one piece of a massive avalanche more or less one year ago. If you haven’t seen the video of the avalanche and Xavier’s words on avalanche awareness you just need to do it now.
Here’s a video from day 5 of the BMP that took 12 of the best freeriders exploring the Alps for perfect riding conditions. Day 5 was an off-day, but riders, like Jeremy Jones -check his video interview here- just had to take advantage of the amazing quantity of fresh snow to shred in the trees and have some fun!

Check it out!
