The hunting season begins…

From Oslo, Norway, Mikkel Bang first proved he meant business to the world when he won the Rookie Challenge at the Air & Style in 2006, gaining a wild card spot in the main event. The following year he powered through the knock out big air competition, beating many of the world’s best riders to take second place overall with an incredibly slick switch backside 1080. King of jibs and jumps, Mikkel rules in both slopestyle and big air competitions, in 2009 alone he racked up four podium spots at major events including the X Games, the Canadian Open and the Dew Tour. Famous for his endlessly positive attitude and enthusiasm for pretty much everything, Nike 6.0 are stoked to have him on board the footwear team and are looking forward to working with him in the 2010 season.

So hot right now after winning Horsefeathers Pleasure Jam and 7th place at Billabong Air & Style. Elias Elhardt will be riding in the International Team of Nitro Snowboards and Raiden Bindings for the upcoming season. Elias is not just only a sick rider, he has an amazing personality! Therefore they are all really happy go get a new member of the Nitro family!

Maybe it’s just us but we are always slightly stunned to read something about the Australian snowboard scene. They had the Australian Open alright and they still have the Stylewars, but are they REALLY riding down there? Nitro Snowboards just signed young Ozzie chap Nate Johnstone.

The rumors are true. As winter has arrived, so has Norwegian phenom Andreas Wiig to Forum’s pro team. Joining Peter Line, Eddie Wall, Pat Moore, Jake Welch, Stevie Bell, John Jackson, Nic Sauvé and Daniel Ek, Andreas is set to give it 110% this season. Whether riding the park, at a slopestyle event or filming in the backcountry, Wiig continually pushes his limits. And he is also the latest join Foursquare’s talented pro team.

Bluetomato is proud to announce their two new Snowboard Teamriders – The brothers from Iceland: Eiki and Halldor Helgason.

Wonder who will be the next “victim”…

The Horsefeathers Pleasure Jam took place on Dachstein glaicer for the seventh time. This year again the contest was a Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour 4 Star Event. The audience got their money’s worth,  everything from heavy fog to bluebird sky and more than enough wind to mess up anybody’s day. But weather conditions didn’t stop 70 men and 20 women from showing some awesome runs. Huge airs, big spins and double “everything” combinations. And not to mention the parties in the evening where it all went completely crazy.

Elias Elhardt impressed the crowd and the judges with clean Double Cork 10s.

Freestyle.ch Zurich 2009 was already pulsing with fervor Friday as expectant visitors and hot contests ignited the Landiweise. The first portion of the qualification delivered impressive sports action while the evening’s hot rap beats were delivered by none other than top Swiss star, Stress.
A clearly contented Stress had thousands of heads rocking to the beat along the banks of Lake Zurich. Then the moment arrived: the spotlight shifted its focus, lighting up the stage of the Big Air, as snowboarders took to their own stage to bedazzle the crowds. Audience favorite, Gian Simmen charmed the masses as he lit up the freestyle arena with his easy-going chatter. In contrast, Elias Elhardt from Germany delivered a speechless performance that landed him at the top of the qualification ranking list. He impressed the jury with an unbelievable Double Cork 10 and a clean Backside Five Japan, sending the crowds into an uproar. A flawless performance was also delivered by 26 year old Markus Keller from Switzerland with his perfect Bloody Dracula Frontside Five. In the last moment, international style-king, Nicolas Müller was able to qualify for the finals alongside TTR champ Peetu Piiroinen.

Check below for some impressions from our reporter in Zurich, Jérome Haldemann.
