It was a busy day of competition under blue skies at the 6Star Burton US Open in Stratton, Vermont. Thursday was the first day for the women to compete in the slopestyle as well as halfpipe qualifiers. They were later joined by the men in the halfpipe for the men’s qualifications. Despite the soft snow, the level of riding was high and much is expected to be coming up tomorrow.

At the second day of competition of the 6Star Burton US Open a over 80 snowboarders fought for one of 41 spots to proceed to qualifiers which will happen on Thursday. The mild temperatures and soft slopes did not stop riders to show their best skills as this is their chance to battle the world’s best riders on Friday in the slopestyle semi finals and finals.

Riders from around the globe are currently making the trek to Stratton, Vermont for the men’s last 6Star event of the 2009/2010 Swatch TTR World Tour season.  The 6Star Burton US Open is set to take hold of Stratton Mountain Resort all next week with slopestyle finals scheduled for Friday, March 19th and halfpipe finals set for Saturday, March 20th.

Snowboard SuperPipe Women’s Eliminations were held yesterday under the lights and temperatures in the teens. Australia’s Torah Bright, 2010 Winter Olympic gold medalist, easily qualified in first for the women’s Snowboard SuperPipe Final which will be held on Thursday.

The 28th annual US Open Snowboarding Championships will once again host thousands of fans and many of the world’s top snowboarders for a weekend of slopestyle, rail jam and halfpipe competitions. Taking place at Stratton Mountain Resort from March 15-21, the Open is the first US event since the 2010 Olympics where snowboard medalists Shaun White, Peetu Piiroinen, Scotty Lago, Hannah Teter and Kelly Clark will compete.

The second annual Burton Canadian Open (CANO) has come to a close and Brett Esser (USA) and Enni Rukajärvi (FIN) have come out on top, winning the men’s and women’s slopestyle competition today at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta. After seeing optimal conditions during the week with bluebird skies, the weather took a turn for the worse with low visibility and frigid temps making for challenging riding during finals.

Finnish riders Peetu Piiroinen (21 years old) and Enni Rukajärvi (19 years old) were the big winners of an exciting slopestyle finals up on Crap Sogn Gion today. Peetu claimed his 3rd BEO title today; while Enni secured her first win at the BEO. Both earned US$ 15.000 prize-money, 8.000 BGOS points as well as 1.000 TTR points. Mikkel Bang (NOR) and local rider Sina Candrian (SUI) took second and Gerjmund Braaten (NOR) and Sarka Pancochova (CZE) rounded out the podium.

In a high-class competition, Enni Rukajärvi took victory at the 7th Roxy Chicken Jam 2010 at Saalbach Hinterglemm. At the world’s biggest snowboard event for girls only, the 19-year-old Finn won over double Roxy Chicken Jam champ Cheryl Maas (NED) and Norwegian Kjersti Buaas Oestgaard who took second and third. The leader of the Swatch TTR Women’s ranking list Sarka Pancochova (CZE) ended up in fourth.

The Horsefeathers Pleasure Jam took place on Dachstein glaicer for the seventh time. This year again the contest was a Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour 4 Star Event. The audience got their money’s worth,  everything from heavy fog to bluebird sky and more than enough wind to mess up anybody’s day. But weather conditions didn’t stop 70 men and 20 women from showing some awesome runs. Huge airs, big spins and double “everything” combinations. And not to mention the parties in the evening where it all went completely crazy.

This year the Horsefeathers Pleasure Jam owns the pole-position among freestyleevents and is ready and waiting for the starting signal. Due to the optimal snow conditions, the Horsefeathers Pleasure Jam Set-Up can already be shred and the foundation for another first rate TTR 4 Star Competition is laid.
